2 Rottweilers, 1 year old. need advice?
Okay, my 1 year old Rotties are like the most adorable thing alive! to me anyway:)
they’ve been to obedience school, and i have to say they turned out quite all right. here’s the thing though:
Diablo, the ‘bigger’ brother can’t tolerate anything that walks on 4… Dogo is very nice when it comes to other dogs. Yesterday i took them to see some friends, they have a pointer. they met from behind the fence, he’s 7 years old and physically bigger than my dogs. dogo got along with him, diablo almost de-faced him.. i don’t know why he’s that vicious.. i’m not that vicious myself:) i mean, he’s not around violent people, they both live very comfortably, no stress, they get along great, no fights whatsoever (diablo actually fears for his brother, they still even sleep in the same house at night) they’re free to go wherever they please around the house (and we have a huuuge house/backyard/front yard, all fenced) i really don’t understand why he’s that vicious with other animals, sometimes even with humans (although he never bites or attacks, only growls when strangers are around) is he gonna be okay? he’s not gonna get any worse, is he? he’s VERY affectionate with friends and family, i don’t want him to become aggressive.. any help?
Well, you say he did “quite well” in obedience class. Use it. When you approached the fence, just make him lay down. If he does anything other than that, correct him for disobeying the command…not for going after the other dog. He probably will never “like” other dogs, but he DOES have to tolerate them. If he will not listen to your commands when another dog is present, then he did “quite sh_tty” in obedience class, and needs to go to a professional trainer. HE will not “grow out of it”.
