My dog is about 11 months old (a rescue..we’re not exactly sure!). I’ve had dogs all my life and none have been crate trained. However, this pup is known to chew furniture while we’re not their. She’s already made herself sick a few times on stuff she’s found around the house. (We’re doing a remodel…there’s some materials out.)

Anyway, she’s a 11-ish month old GSD/rotty mix. We’ve had her since she was 4-ish months. We tried to confine her to one room when we first got her, but she seems to take each obstacle as a personal challenge. She has the whole house to herself from 8am-3pm and usually does well.

I have her signed up for obedience school (starting Thursday..yay!) but wondering if crate training would be a good idea as well. She doesn’t chew/rummage/whatever all the time. And she is 100% house trained. It’s just those few times (maybe once per week) that my husband comes home to a chunk out of the coffee table…

Too late to crate? What would be the 1st step

Okay, my 1 year old Rotties are like the most adorable thing alive! to me anyway:)
they’ve been to obedience school, and i have to say they turned out quite all right. here’s the thing though:
Diablo, the ‘bigger’ brother can’t tolerate anything that walks on 4… Dogo is very nice when it comes to other dogs. Yesterday i took them to see some friends, they have a pointer. they met from behind the fence, he’s 7 years old and physically bigger than my dogs. dogo got along with him, diablo almost de-faced him.. i don’t know why he’s that vicious.. i’m not that vicious myself:) i mean, he’s not around violent people, they both live very comfortably, no stress, they get along great, no fights whatsoever (diablo actually fears for his brother, they still even sleep in the same house at night) they’re free to go wherever they please around the house (and we have a huuuge house/backyard/front yard, all fenced) i really don’t understand why he’s that vicious with other animals, sometimes even with humans (although he never bites or attacks, only growls when strangers are around) is he gonna be okay? he’s not gonna get any worse, is he? he’s VERY affectionate with friends and family, i don’t want him to become aggressive.. any help?

I might be getting a Yorkshire Terrier and I am concerned how to housebreak him or her. Him or Her will be sleeping in a crate until him or her are fully potty trained. We have 2 other dogs and they are Golden Retrievers and first one I got rid of but the guy gave him back and he came back potty trained and the second one I don’t know how I did it but I did and he is fully House Broken. I did have a yorkie before but I had to get rid of her when I moved to an apartment. So I am now wondering how to potty train one because this one I will be keeping for good. The first yorkie I could not potty train and like a year later I had to move to an apartment. So please only answer if you know how to potty train a yorkshire terrier. If I can and it does not cost a lot I might send it off to doggie school also know as obedience school.

I signed my puppy (10 months old) up for obedience school at the local SPCA. A “basic manners” class. I just received the confirmation email and it says to:
“Bring a hungry dog to class! Cut back on the meal prior to your class by 1/3 to 1/2. If you have a puppy, use your judgment. Hungry dogs will be more attentive and less distracted.”

Has anyone ever heard of this? And what should I do for my puppy, going by “my judgement”? My pup is a shepard/rotty rescue dog who LOOKS like an exact mix of both but has something else, too, because she’s only 50 lbs and not getting any bigger.
My first thought was the “treat” training. I have another problem with that, though…she’s not really “into” treats. We reward her with love and attention, giving her treats once in a while. Often times, when we offer her a treat she doesn’t eat it, doesn’t want it. Example: We went for a walk in the woods, letting her off the leash after a long display of “I have treats, they’re right here in my pocket.” When calling her (treat in hand), she would sprint towards us, nose litterally hitting the treat but not caring about is, then trot along happily beside us after our praise. And this was mid-day, working hard, she MUST have been hungry.

Will this be a problem? Should I mention that?

Thanks so much for the answers so far!

My friend has a miniature toy poodle (yeah – I know!) who’s becoming more and more aggressive. At first we thought it was just teething but replacing a bitten hand with a chew toy didn’t work! Time out didn’t work eaither, neither did saying ‘no’ sharply or ignoring him. He goes after legs, feet, arms hands, and he even tries to bite the face! He had bitten my friend’s mother pretty badly – she needed stitches on her hand! My friend tried to sign him up to obedience school but she was told that he needs all his shots – the problem is that he is only 2 month old & much too young to receive many of the shots he still needs. My dogs were never this aggressive so I’m not sure what advice I can give her. I also thought I’d mention that the dog also kidnaps shoes and hides them in a spot that no one can reach – he’s accumulated over 9 pairs already, along with clothes, pillows, blankets and other things that are way too big for him and he continually drags in there. He has started destroying furniture as well and jumping very high in order to ‘steal’ more things for his hole of clutter. He is also the second dog in the house – the first one is the same breed as him but older and very, very calm. My friend is at the end of her wits because the thing even jumps at her throat, trying to rip off her necklaces! How can the tiny terror be stopped?????

How to Buy the Perfect Puppy

Everyone has always wanted a puppy since they were a little child. Today you will learn how to find a healthy, smart little guy/girl to fill your life. must pet shots sell puppy’s. I personal would never purchase anything for a pet shop because of the diseases that are in the environment. Most of the puppy’s that are there are sick from being in an environment where they are to many animals with not enough space to be able to be clean, happy, or healthy. So whenever looking to purchase a puppy look for a reputable seller. They should have been breeding for awhile and have lots of experience doing so.

You should always take into consideration when purchasing a puppy how much time, space and energy you will have to spend with you puppy. If you are an outside person who like nature you make want a larger breed dog, like a golden retriever for Labradors Retreiver. if you live in a small apartment or are just looking for a companion you would look for a smaller dog, maybe something like a mini poodle or shitz shu.

Make sure that all dogs are in a clean environment where they have space to run and are clean and well groomed. They should be happy and friendly. You should visit the owners before you decide to purchase a puppy. make sure all of the animals are of sound stock, meaning that they are healthy and are not interbred. Also be sure that the parents do not have any history of illness’s that would affect there puppy’s. the parents should be kept separate the majority of the time. also be sure to see both parents if possible so that you know what characteristics you puppy might have.

Now if everything is satisfactory you can proceed onto looking for you perfect puppy. when you find the perfect little guy make sure that they are free of infections, bites, have good parents and are happy themselves. they should have lots of energy and want to be held and cuddled. Make sure that they have proper paperwork if they re registered, and that they have all there shots. for small puppy’s it is very important that they have all of the proper medications so that they can grown into strong, healthy adults.

Now that you have your perfect puppy you must give them lots of love and attention. you will also want to start potty training and teaching them how to sit, stay and basic commands. It is a very good idea to take you r new puppy to obedience school. they will not only help teach you new puppy but also help teach you the proper way to teach your puppy. over the years you will see how you both have grown and you will become the best of friends and wonderful companions. Tht’s why it’s called mans best friend.
this is an essay for my ged prep test
